Kare Martinez is developing a feature film — “SCATTERED”. It’s a comedy-drama road movie set in the UK and Trinidad that sees a British woman, Alexa Hastings, travel to Trinidad to scatter the ashes of the Caribbean grandmother she barely knew. Together with her free-spirited cousin Jade, Alexa embarks on a wild life-changing road-trip to a remote fishing village where they uncover secrets from her family’s past. Think a female Sideways set in Trinidad!
Karen Martinez will direct and has co-written the screenplay with Global Voices supremo Georgia Popplewell. Port-of-Spain-based Lesley-Anne McFarlane is attached co-producer. An Oscar-nominated actress has indicated her strong interest in the project and we are currently talking to various UK-based producers.
The project won the bpTT Best Feature Film in Development award at the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival 2017 in October. Scattered was awarded a Marketing & Development Grant from FilmTT 2017 (Trinidad & Tobago Film Commission). It was selected to take part in the British Council Caribbean Script Development Workshop 2017 with the script editor Ludo Smolski. It was also short-listed for the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab 2017.
